Robert Burns - Schottischer Nationaldichter

Aus aktuellem Anlass sei an dieser Stelle ein Versäumnis nachgeholt und an den Poeten unter den schottischen Dichtern erinnert.

Geboren wurde er am 25. Januar 1759 in Alloway geboren. Aus diesem Grund wird alljährlich die Burns Night begangen, meist in Form des Burns Supper.

Bei dieser Gelegenheit gibt es ein traditionelles Mahl aus Suppe, Haggis mit Steckrüben und Kartoffeln und als Dessert Trifles.

Beim Servieren des Haggis wird sein Gedicht The Address to a Haggis verlesen.

Sein bekanntestes Gedicht dürfte das als Lied bekannte Auld Lang Syne sein.
