Könnte mir aber vorstellen, das dies kein exklusives Royal Navy Thema war. Jede Seilerei wollte ja irgendwie nachweisen das es Ihre Ware war.
Da man schlecht auf die Taue drucken konnte "Seilerei Miller", da wäre es schon praktisch etwas im Seil zu haben was einem klar sagt, von wem das Seil ist.

Da wäre es eben interessant zu wissen, ob es da wie bei den Signalen entsprechende (weitergehende) Codes gab, wonach man Herstellungsort und ggfs. Jahr unterscheiden konnte.

Das muss die moderneren Zeiten betreffen, denn hier wird ja in der Einfärbung nach Material unterschieden, so wie das heute auch üblich ist.
Irgendwo habe ich gelesen, dass es - vermutlich vor der farblichen Markierung - auch üblich war, geteertes Seil mit einem ungeteerten Garn, sowie ungeteertes Seil mit einem Teergarn für die Navy zu markieren.
